Approximations from Anywhere and General Rough Sets
نویسنده
چکیده
Not all approximations arise from information systems. The problem of fitting approximations, subjected to some rules (and related data), to information systems in a rough scheme of things is known as the inverse problem. The inverse problem is more general than the duality (or abstract representation) problems and was introduced by the present author in her earlier papers. From the practical perspective, a few (as opposed to one) theoretical frameworks may be suitable for formulating the problem itself. Granular operator spaces have been recently introduced and investigated by the present author in her recent work in the context of antichain based and dialectical semantics for general rough sets. The nature of the inverse problem is examined from number-theoretic and combinatorial perspectives in a higher order variant of granular operator spaces and some necessary conditions are proved. The results and the novel approach would be useful in a number of unsupervised and semi supervised learning contexts and algorithms.

Evidence-theory-based numerical characterization of multigranulation rough sets in incomplete information systems
Multigranulation rough sets are desirable features in the field of rough set, where this concept is approximated by multiple granular structures. In this study, we employ belief and plausibility functions from evidence theory to characterize the set approximations and attribute reductions in multigranulation rough set theory. First, we show that in an incomplete information system, the pessimis...
متن کاملFuzzy-Rough Nearest Neighbour Classification
A new fuzzy-rough nearest neighbour (FRNN) classification algorithm is presented in this paper, as an alternative to Sarkar’s fuzzyrough ownership function (FRNN-O) approach. By contrast to the latter, our method uses the nearest neighbours to construct lower and upper approximations of decision classes, and classifies test instances based on their membership to these approximations. In the exp...
متن کاملGeneralized Ideals and Co-granular Rough Sets
Lattice-theoretic ideals have been used to define and generate non granular rough approximations over general approximation spaces over the last few years by few authors. The goal of these studies, in relation based rough sets, have been to obtain nice properties comparable to those of classical rough approximations. In this research paper, these ideas are generalized in a severe way by the pre...
متن کاملIncremental updating approximations in probabilistic rough sets under the variation of attributes
The attribute set in an information system evolves in time when new information arrives. Both lower and upper approximations of a concept will change dynamically when attributes vary. Inspired by the former incremental algorithm in Pawlak rough sets, this paper focuses on new strategies of dynamically updating approximations in probabilistic rough sets and investigates four propositions of upda...
متن کاملProbabilistic rough sets: Approximations, decision-makings, and applications
The main objective of this special issue is to present readers with the significantly extended and improved versions of the articles presented at the International Conference on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, and Granular Computing (RSFDGrC’05) held in Regina, Canada in September 2005. In the standard rough set model, the lower and upper approximations are defined based on the two extreme cases (full ...
